The 3D pane
The 3D pane turns a sentence into a mesh you can orbit, then optionally gives that mesh a skeleton and an animation. Open it from the command palette (Open the 3D pane) or by saying open the 3D pane.
Generate a model
Section titled “Generate a model”Type what you want — a brass diving helmet, weathered — and press Generate. The button carries its own estimated price, because a control that spends money should never be unlabelled.
Generation takes a few minutes. The window shows Tripo’s own progress percentage while it works, then loads the finished model into the viewer. Drag to orbit, scroll to zoom.
Models are saved as .glb files in the app’s models folder, so they outlive the window. They open in Blender, Unity, Unreal, Godot, or anything else that reads glTF.
Rig and animate
Section titled “Rig and animate”Pick an animation preset — walk, run, idle, jump and the rest — and press Rig + animate. Three things happen in order:
- A free pre-rig check. Not every mesh can carry a skeleton, and rigging one that can’t fails after billing. The check costs nothing and saves the credits.
- Rigging, which adds the skeleton.
- Retargeting, which puts the chosen animation onto it.
The animated model comes back into the same viewer and plays automatically. If it carries more than one clip, a row of buttons appears above the prompt so you can switch between them.
What it costs
Section titled “What it costs”Everything here bills to your Tripo account. The remaining credit balance sits in the bottom-right of the window, read live from Tripo rather than guessed. Generations also count against the daily media budget you set in Settings → Brand, the same cap that covers images, video and music — 3D isn’t exempt from a limit you set for generation spend.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”“Add TRIPO_API_KEY…” — the key is missing. Settings → Agents, paste it, and the window picks it up on the next generation.
“Tripo says the account is out of credits” — top up at platform.tripo3d.ai. This is an account limit rather than a Mastery HQ error, so it’ll keep failing until it’s topped up.
The model generated but the download failed — a finished model’s URL expires five minutes after the task completes. Mastery HQ downloads it inside the same operation specifically so this can’t happen, so if you see it, the machine most likely lost its connection mid-download. The credits are already spent; check platform.tripo3d.ai before regenerating.
Nothing appears but there’s no error — the viewer needs WebGL. If the machine has no GPU path available the window says so in place of the canvas.
Frequently asked questions
What do I need before this works?
A Tripo API key. Create one at platform.tripo3d.ai — keys start with `tsk_` — and paste it into Settings → Agents as TRIPO_API_KEY. Generation is billed to your own Tripo account in credits, not through Mastery HQ.
Why is the cost shown as an estimate?
Tripo bills in credits and its task response doesn't report what a generation actually cost, so there is nothing to reconcile against. The figures on the buttons are the published credit prices converted at $0.01/credit and rounded up, so the estimate never sits below what you could be charged. The credit balance in the corner is read from your real account.
Why can't I rig a model I generated yesterday?
Rigging is a follow-on task that hangs off the original generation's task id, which lives in that window for the session. Reopening a saved .glb gives you the mesh but not the handle Tripo needs, so generate again in the window you want to rig in.
